Week of 1/3: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great one. I'm stoked for 2016! As I recently said...let's get your bass playing in the 2016 New Year started right by setting GOALS and keeping close track of your practicing. In our Forum, a "Practice Log" subforum has been added, and I encourage you to come by and start your official log, and from there we can discuss your progress as much as possible.

How can we make odd-meters feel a little less odd...with a little more groove?

What's up everyone? We're back in that classic stint between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and boy it's a busy time for me. I'm very excited to announce the release of my upcoming bass book/DVD "ADVANCED ROCK BASS" published by Hal Leonard! I never dreamed of my bass education endeavors going this far, and after learning out of Hal Leonard books since about age 5 when I started piano, this is completely surreal. The book comes with 75+ minutes of video lessons, 70+ exercises, 10 backing tracks, and is a complete "A-Z" guide for my approach to writing basslines in rock and metal music. This is all exclusive content you won't find even here on LEU!

All Low End University members with active memberships will receive a 20% discount if you purchase using code "LEU20" at checkout - pre-order your copy HERE!!!

It's officially the holiday season, and since you're busy, it's the easiest time to lose some edge on your chops. Don't let the chops get chopped...

Folks! The holidays are near! I feel like I was just typing out "Happy October" on one of these news entries...crazy stuff! As this time of year inevitably gets busier, DON'T put the bass down and forget about it. It's so easy to do, and so much progress can be lost on reaching your bass-playing goals. Even if you can only squeeze in 10-15 minutes of practice per day, schedule it before bedtime, and at all costs, keep those hands in shape. If those 10-15 minutes are all you have, just noodle around on scales over and over to keep the hands warm. This isn't to "practice" necessarily by definition, but to MAINTAIN YOUR CHOPS. Of course I want you to practice MORE, but if this is all you have, that's what I want you to do. If you put the bass down for a few weeks: you won't forget your music theory you learned, you won't forget your scale patterns, you won't forget how to groove, you won't forget how to slap the bass, but you WILL start to lose your chops. All right...there's my motivational speech for the week : )

Our "Member of the Week" is Tony Vibbert from Indianapolis, IN! Check out his band Party Lines!

As previously stated...you may have 5, but do you have 7?
